Prior to joining St. James's Place David spent a successful eight years in the British Army achieving the rank of Major. Prior to his military career he was a full-time athlete who competed at a national level in middle distance and cross-country racing. As a consequence David understands the nuances of a career in the military and the different financial circumstances faced by professional sportspeople. Taking into consideration his background David passionately believes that being competitive for his clients and providing the best options for them is crucial.

Outside of his business life David is a competitive road runner and competes in off-road obstacle challenges. Charity work is very important and he involved in fundraising for a number of local and national charities, his most recent exploit guiding a blind veteran around the London marathon.
